Joseph Awinbilla Ayeebo - Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg - Generation 2025 - BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG

My name is Joseph Awinbilla Ayeebo, often referred to as the "King of Africa" due to my royal heritage from northern Ghana and my Pan-African ideals and aspirations. Ghana is rich in natural resources such as gold, oil, and fertile land; however, the country faces some challenges, such as food and energy insecurity, gender inequality, disparities between the north and south, and inter-ethnic conflicts, especially in the north. Growing up in a village in the Upper East Region without electricity and grappling with hunger issues motivates me to work on SDGs 2 and 7 through the innovative agrivoltaics concept.

In Ghana, I worked as a Youth Development Field Officer at the National Youth Authority (NYA) within the Tema Metropolitan Assembly. My focus areas included SDGs 5 (Gender Equality), 13 (Climate Action), and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). However, my current research experience has motivated me to revisit issues related to food and energy insecurity. This is why I am eager to work with Grenzenlos on SDGs 2 (Zero Hunger), 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and other interconnected SDGs.

I currently hold a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Environmental Governance from the Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg, with a thesis on agrivoltaics- the integration of solar PV systems on agriculture to simultaneously produce crops or livestock and generate electricity. This has given me interdisciplinary expertise encompassing environmental and sustainability governance, agrivoltaics, land-use strategy, rural development, as well as conflict management and youth development.

My association with Grenzenlos so far has been truly inspiring, as our values are aligned. That is why I am determined to work hard to bring about the change Grenzenlos aims to achieve.

Let us come together, learn, share perspectives, and work towards a common goal of making our world a better place for us and future generations.

Thank you!
