This book is a story about the beginnings of the European Student Relief which was founded in 1920 and which developed into the World University Service.
After World War I, congresses of all kinds considered how to rebuild Europe from different angles. As Ruth Rouse, former secretary of the World Student Christian Federation,points out the key to the salvation of the nations lay so obviously in the universities, the nurseries of future leadership. Till 1920 there was no corporate effort to save students. Therefore the European Student Relief was founded for co-operative self-help.
