Description of the Organization

The French Committee for International Solidarity (Comité Français pour la Solidarité Internationale) is a non-profit organisation and was founded under the name of Comité Français contre la Faim (French committee against hunger) in 1960. The CFSI supports – with the help of its donors and its 25 member organisations – operations to fight hunger, poverty and injustice in the developing countries. Our goals: - supporting long-term development programmes for the benefit of the poorest parts of the population in the developing countries - sensitising the French public to the challenges of development and international solidarity, especially in order to fight world hunger In 2001, the CFSI won a major award from the French Haut Conseil de la Coopération Internationale (high council of international cooperation) for the support of the microfinance institution Kafo Jiginew in Mali, the first Malian credit union. The costs of CFSI’s initiatives are borne by the population with donations, bequests, regular payments of partial revenues from (mainly French) financial products and by co-funding from the the French and European authorities or foundations that directly support development programmes.
