My name is Phidelis Wamalwa, from Kenya, and a Nurse epidemiologist by professional background. I am currently a Doctoral student at Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, in Health policy and systems research. My research work focusses on effective financing of health systems to ensure equitable access to affordable care for all, directly contributing to the achievement of SDG 3 and 10.
You know they say, poverty and poor health are like a bad couple in a never-ending soap opera, constantly intertwined. Poverty causes poor health, poor health keeps poverty around, and neither seems to be willing to break up from the other. I believe that with functional health systems, we canend the toxic relationship between health and poverty.
Being part of Grenzenlos gives me a unique platform to learn, exchange ideas and share my experience about different health systems structures and their contributions to ensuring equity. I believe that people are the most valuable resource for making the world sustainable. By improving these systems, we can help everyone stay healthy, happy and economically productive.
