They also deal with dignity, identity and much more.

Description of the Organization

Hegoa is an organisation not oriented to profit. It was founded in 1987 as a union in the Universidad del País Vasco/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea. Moreover, since 1999 it presents itself as an institute of university. In Hegoa we work in the support of the lasting human development of the people and try to provide the debate on development and international cooperation for the whole society. The areas in which we structure our work are: documentation, education, sensitization and education for development as well as consultation and research.

Main goals of the principal are to contribute to change values in our society which promote a critical, united and global understanding of problems of our earth. We go out from a vision which stands alternatively to the prevailing developing draught which is directed at the person as a center and protagonist of the development and is based on the values of the equality and solidarity. All activities must be measured for this basic principle in the paradigm of a lasting human development. In addition we try to combine the technical professionalism and experience of the members with the continual position of the research and reflection by the achievements and areas of work in our work.

To achieve these aims, we are directed at the civil society as whole, to public institutions, social organizations and educational institutions, as well as to the people who deal by their engagement or in the professional life with cooperation and development.

Description of the Organization

Description of the Organization

Difäm, the German Institute for Medical Mission, based in Tübingen, was founded in 1906. It is a specialized advisory center, medical relief organization and bearer of the Paul Lechler Clinic for Tropical Diseases. We provide support to development and relief organizations worldwide (for example: Brot für die Welt [bread for the world], social welfare work and disaster aid) for the implementation of health projects; we assist our local partners in planning their projects and offer them ongoing support.

Our doctors have run health programs in southern countries for years and can thus provide the necessary specialized knowledge. Our main goal is to establish a firm basis for sustainable health care by promoting basic health care services and home health care. With our seminars in public health and treatment of tropical diseases, we further the training of local health care specialists and of qualified personnel.

Difäm promotes and carries out projects that help patients suffering from disabilities or diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, and leprosy. Our medical aid service provides indispensable medicine, medical tools and auxiliary materials etc. for partner clinics and health care stations in over 90 countries around the world. Our long-term goal, however, is to make these countries independent of foreign aid. For this reason, Difäm provides raw materials, tools and training for local personnel in order to support the local production of pharmaceuticals. In addition to providing direct aid, we are also active in political lobbying and public campaigns for the right to health care.
