Description of the Organization

The German Federation for Arts Education and Cultural Learning (Bundesvereinigung Kulturelle Kinder- und Jugendbildung - BKJ) is the umbrella organisation for cultural education in Germany. More than 50 nationwide specialist organisations and state associations have joined forces in the BKJ. With their offers of cultural education in the fields of visual arts, digital media, film, photography, literature, music, rhythm, play, dance, theatre and circus, they are committed to diversity, inclusion, voluntary work, international exchange and successful educational landscapes. We advise specialists and teachers in the field of (non-formal) arts education on technical and conceptual questions and on support programmes, also at the intersection with an education for sustainable development and transformative learning for global justice. Youth organisations based in Germany can apply to us for funding for individual programmes, for example for international exchanges in the field of cultural education or for educational alliances at local level.

Description of the Organization

The W3_ is an educational and cultural center around global justice. It offers a platform for encounters and exchange and, with its diverse program of events, encourages critical questioning of social conditions. It invites to inspiration, to experience, to reflection and to common action for a global and local justice.

With lectures, workshops, conferences, symposia, readings, performances as well as film screenings and actions, W3_ establishes the connection between local politics and global developments in series of events, projects as well as individual and cooperative events and motivates people to get involved. With dialogue-oriented/participative formats such as performances and actions in public space, spontaneous interactions with residents of the district are realized, which actively call for participation.

It is important to W3_ to focus on less present voices and alternative perspectives, to make them audible and visible, and to think and link local and global dimensions together. The goal is always to make people think, to provide inspiration and ideas for their own everyday lives, and to show options for action.

In the Open School there is the experience that one can make an important contribution to justice, environmental protection, peacekeeping as well as poverty reduction by oneself and that success in these areas is possible.

Open School 21 offers about 40 different workshops, project days, city walks and harbor tours on request. Topics of the Open School are globalization, human rights, poverty reduction, world agricultural trade, climatic change, flight and migration, fair trade, sustainable
consumption, child labor, colonial history as well as living conditions and environments in different countries.

The program of The Open School 21 is directed to school students from every grade and school form. The activities take place at the harbor, in different parts of the city, in the education center “Werkstatt 3” or in one’s own school.

The events are held by self-employed experts with abroad and migration experiences that come from the field of development cooperation, arts and science. For teachers, the Open School 21 offers consultation for global education, support for day-projects as well as materials for preparation and follow-up of events.
