Description of the Organization

To achieve its goal of creating a 'world for all people,' Terre des Hommes functions as an advocate for children's rights, grass-roots movement in terms of development policy, and citizens' action groups. Terre des Hommes raises funds to support development projects that enable people to actively shape their own destinies. At the same time, structures here in the North must change. To that end, Terre des Hommes fosters development policy in the North and stands up for "global learning".

The student solidarity campaign
With this campaign, learning is no longer restricted to the classroom. Schools or individual classes can choose from a variety of projects particularly interesting for students, and support this project once or on a regular basis. Terre des Hommes provides media and class material for the individual projects.

Children for the rights of children
Terre des Hommes also stands up for the rights of children. It is understood that children are most welcome to join the work of Terre des Hommes, for example in one of the teams where children fight for other children's rights. Children and adolescents form groups and teams with friends, develop creative campaigns, and are responsible for their realization. Terre des Hommes supports them by providing material and ideas.

Material
Terre des Hommes provides books for children and adolescents of different age groups. These books describe the life of young people in the South. Collections of slides on different topics, countries, and projects can be borrowed. Many of those collections are already available on CD-ROM. Above that, there are various wall newspapers, leaflets, posters, comics, and videos. The Terre des Hommes website contains pages for children and students.

Description of the Organization

Pharma-Kampagne is part of the German Federal Congress of Development Action Groups (BUKO). The aim of BUKO is to expose structural injustice between North and South and to press for changes towards a fair economic and political world order. BUKO has about 200 member groups. Since Germany is one of the world's largest exporters of drugs, BUKO became interested in the economical and health implications of the trade with pharmaceuticals and medicinal products. Thus in 1980 Pharma-Kampagne was founded.

Activities of Pharma Kampagne: Pharma-Kampagne is an independent non-profit NGO and dependant on donations. We monitor the marketing practices of the German pharmaceutical industry in Third World Countries. We try to stop unethical practices such as the sale of dangerous, useless and irrational drugs, the distribution of misleading information and unethical promotion. We also work on the rational use of drugs and problems of the health system in Germany.

Pharma-Kampagne is a public awareness raising campaign group. We organise action weeks and street theatre tours, do continuous press work, lobby politicians and pressure industry for a change in marketing behaviour in Developing Countries.

Our campaigns against the marketing practices of Boehringer Ingelheim, Hoechst, Schering, and E. Merck resulted in the withdrawal of a number of hazardous drugs. We successfully lobbied for a German export control law for pharmaceuticals. Pharma-Kampagne is a member of Health Action International (HAI), the Women's Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) and the International Society of Drug Bulletins (ISDB).

Description of the Organization

The abbreviation iz3w stands for "information center 3. world" in Freiburg. The most important feature of our work is the publication of the magazine iz3w.

We also maintain an extensive archive for magazines and newspapers, open to the general public. Apart from this we occasionally publish documentations and books.

The focal point of our work is the magazine iz3w. Since 1970 the iz3w is one of the most important independent magazines catering to north-south themes in the German speaking world. In our eight editions yearly, we deal with various topics ranging from globalization – migration and racism, development politics and theory, ecology and media, literature, sport and music as well as with social movements. These and many other issues are analysed in light of the north-south relations, which still remain the central issue for political, economic and cultural developments in spite of the shifts in recent times.

The iz3w makes no claim towards being a neutral source of information and analysis of world happenings. We are more inclined towards a critical approach of the "new world order", which in our opinion is not
entirely for the betterment of all. A world, which has an abundance of material possibilities to guarantee a decent living for all, instead of which we have a world where billions are forced to live in poverty & suppression.

Description of the Organization

For over 30 years, INKOTA has been an ecumenical network of development-oriented grassroots organizations, parishes, fair-trade stores, and individuals.
We align ourselves with the worldwide movement of the critics of globalization and therefore, work for a world in which the human needs and interests of all people count more than the economic interests of a privileged group. Hereby we link our support for our partner groups in the South with public awareness building vis-a-vis development issues in Germany.
