Description of the Organization

For over 30 years, INKOTA has been an ecumenical network of development-oriented grassroots organizations, parishes, fair-trade stores, and individuals.
We align ourselves with the worldwide movement of the critics of globalization and therefore, work for a world in which the human needs and interests of all people count more than the economic interests of a privileged group. Hereby we link our support for our partner groups in the South with public awareness building vis-a-vis development issues in Germany.

Description of the Organization

IJGD stands for International Youth Community Services. It is a non-profit organisation working in the field of international youth work and political education. Since 1949, IJGD has been active throughout Germany as an organisation independent from any religious or political party and recognised by the state authorities. The aim of IJGD is to forward young people's awareness of social conditions and to support the development of a feeling of social responsibility. The work of IJGD thus includes the promotion of international understanding and the reduction of prejudice between people of different nations, social backgrounds, religions and political ideas. We organise workcamps, international youth meetings, youth holiday periods in Germany, Europe and overseas as well as different trainings and seminars as further education.

In addition, IJGD is in charge of different long-term voluntary services such as the voluntary social service (FSJ), the voluntary ecological service (FÖJ) and the voluntary heritage service (FJD).

The Berlin part of IJGD, IJGD LV Berlin, has a specific focus on intercultural and inter-generation projects. In the field of the European Voluntary Service (EVS), IJGD Berlin is involved as a sending and hosting organisation. As part of our pilote project ‘voluntary services in socially deprived areas', ijgd Berlin has a growing number of EVS-placements in Berlin in socially deprived areas. This pilote project aims to further social inclusion, intercultural learning and to support small non-profit organisations and initiatives. As a sending organisation we send young German volunteers from Berlin and ist surroundings for longterm voluntary services to Europe in the frame work of EVS.

IJGD Berlin also organises midterm voluntary services in Africa, Asia and Latinamerika.

Description of the Organization

Verdens Skove is an environmental organisation working to promote sustainable use of the World’s forests, particularly the rainforests of Latin America and the native Danish forests. For more than 25 years we have been working to preserve forest resources for the benefit of nature and of local and global communities alike.

Forests of the World promotes sustainable tourism and forestry practices through innovative projects with local forest dependent communities in several Latin American countries.

The indigenous peoples of Latin America who have called the forests their home for generations have inalienable rights to those forests. In Forests of the World we know that forest conservation is not likely to be effective or sustainable, or even fair, if it happens at the expense of local, forest dependent communities. Our projects are carried out in close cooperation with indigenous peoples and local environmental organisations.

A substantive part of our work, in Denmark as well as internationally, consists of advocacy and campaigning. In Denmark, much of our work is carried out by our network of volunteers and supporters.

Description of the Organization

atavus advises schools and other educational establishments on how to create dye-plant gardens. These gardens serve to preserve the diversity of cultivated plants and promote interdisciplinary learning. Dye-plant gardens promote the production and use of colors according to Agenda 21. By focusing on topics such as cosmetics and various types of paints, both children and adults are encouraged to reflect on questions related to ecology, economics and social matters. In addition, opportunities to participate actively in this process are developed. Along with the dye-plant institute in Essen Altendorf, the international dye-plant garden in Gelsenkirchen, and the ones in South Africa, atavus offers numerous possibilities for networking. By including handicrafts we want to create economic cycles where children, as communicators of the "do-it-yourself" approach can find vocational training opportunities.

We get special support from the UNESCO city of Gelsenkirchen. With various activities, Gelsenkirchen is well on its way from being industrial town to becoming the ‘city of 1000 colours'. In the international exchange with South Korea (cultural exchange), Azerbaijan (paint extraction), Lithonia (Africa workshop), South Africa (cosmetics), Nicaragua (manufacturing) and numerous European partners (Ruhr 2010), we are currently running a set of interlinked projects.

Old knowledge, personal responsibility, and pleasure in learning will be taught in various events and places: Landesgartenschau Hemer 2010, European Film Awards 2009, Vilnius 2009, BNE conference 2009, Africa Conference North-Rhine Westphalia, Kaffeegarten Eine Weltnetz 2010, Mondialogo-Unesco, International Painters Camp 2010 and others.
